The Exchange, Greengates

Greengate Embankment is the historic centre of Salford, overlooked by Manchester Cathedral. Close to Victoria Station and shopping core of Manchester, it is an area that has been neglected for many years.

The brief specified a development promoting a wide range of high quality, mixed use, market led developments creating a new identity for this part of central Salford.

Bars, restaurants and other retail uses front the public space overlooking Greengate at ground level creating a new active and dynamic meeting point of Manchester and Salford.

The scale of buildings form an important gateway to the new square beyond, and reinforce the city centre location and its attendant vibrancy.

Phase I of the development consists of a new build commercial scheme comprising a mix of retail and car park uses at street level within the existing podium, and the development of an office building above. The first residential building on the opposite side of Greengate will complete the symbolic gateway and firmly establish the credentials of the location.
