Inaugurated in May 1923, Estadio Mestalla, the home ground of Valencia C.F. lies close to the centre of this vibrant city, and is a much loved and integral part of its cultural heritage and a favourite amongst players for the immediacy of the 55,000 spectators to the action on the pitch.
Valencia, Spain’s third largest city, with circa 800,000 inhabitants, has many avid football fans, and the local team’s continued long term international success creates severe congestion on match days. To ease this disruption and provide modern facilities, securing the long term future of the sport, a new home has been found close to the Palacio de Congresos on the Avenida Cortes Valencianas, an arterial route to the city centre with excellent public transport links.
The proposal for a new 60,000 seat stadium for Valencia Football Club celebrates the much loved sense of theatre of their historic home and the immediacy of the fans to the pitch. The 180m diameter arena is designed to host a variety of events, with an optimised configuration for football.
The new stadium has a unique character that wraps around an embraces the event, helping to control noise and light pollution, with an external envelope that can tune its permeability to suit the occasion, ranging from closed and private to open and embracing, with a range of vibrant water side cafes, restaurants, bars with retail accommodation arranged around the perimeter offering a welcome respite from the heat of the day.
Advanced conference, presentation and meeting facilities welcome visitors throughout the year, complementing existing facilities in the region, with immediate access to a wide range of public transport including the new underground station.
