The third phase of an office park adjacent to Gatwick Airport, City Place 3 is at one end of the masterplan’s central axis, opposite the historic Beehive building. The building adopts an L-shaped configuration, maintaining the building line of previous phases.
The building contains 4 storeys of accommodation around a central core and full-height entrance lobby. The plan is extremely efficient, creating a rich variety of space-planning options within each floorplate.
The primary external elevations are clad in slender black-framed glazed curtain walling. The secondary elevations contain horizontal linear windows set into a classical modern rendered surround, echoing the Beehive. External elements, including full-height vertical aluminium shading fins, and escape staircases clad in stainless steel mesh, add a monumental scale to this simply articulated form.
Displacement ventilation, high-performance glazing reducing CO2 emissions and an attenuation water runoff tank facilitate a highly energy efficient building.
