Barnsley Town Centre

Based on our competition winning designs, we were commissioned by Yorkshire Forward to develop a proposal for the Barnsley Markets area. Our proposals were within the spirit of the Will Alsop masterplan for Barnsley. The markets area was viewed as the catalyst for the redevelopment of the town. Our proposals were designed to attract bids from developers for the redevelopment of the area.

We developed two alternative proposals with extensive new retail and mixed use commercial buildings arranged around a spectacular new home for the open air market. The market building would be a meeting place for the people of Barnsley. The market would be integrated within a new street pattern animating a new public space near to the train station.
